Chapter 1

  Dani’s P.O.V.

I sat up to the sound of my father walking through the house (more like a mansion). He’s always up early; it’s his job as the Vampire King. He’s not evil and neither am I. We are the ones who keep most of you humans alive; but you wouldn’t know that ‘cause you think all vampires want to suck you dry and that’s what kills you; you run away from the good guys and trust the bad ones.

I looked at the clock and got up and put on my black knee-length dress and walked downstairs to join my parents.

“Hello mother.” I greeted when I entered the kitchen.

“Hello Daniella.” I cringed; I hated my full name, even though it’s not as bad as Nat’s.

“Where’s father?” I asked while opening the fridge door.

“He’s in battle… again.” She replied, her voice showing no emotion.

I wonder about her sometimes, wonder about what made her so cold and indifferent instead of the happy, lively lady I once knew.

“Okay,” I replied, “I’ll be at Rai’s.” She nodded and I left without another word.

  ***----***----***----***----***----***----***----***----***----***---***---***---

I arrived and knocked on her door. She opened it in her human form.

“Going out?” I asked rocking back and forth on her step.

“Maybe.” She smiled and pulled me down the road where I changed into my human form.

  Nat’s P.O.V.

Natashia Alexisina Maxwellina. What parents in their right mind would name their child that? I huffed and kept walking. Boston is really dirty. I kept walking and tried to block out the disgusting smells until one scent was stronger than the rest. Human blood. Stupid Brutanic Vampires. I broke into a run, following the scent and texted a 311 to Dani and Rai.

I stopped when I heard chuckling in an alley. I walked behind the wall and saw two male figures over a dead girl’s body. Great, just what I need. (Note the sarcasm)

             “And who might you be?”

I turned and came face-to-face with a boy, about a year older than me, with black hair and blue green eyes. He was wearing a black t-shirt, that showed his muscles and abs perfectly, a dark green jacket, black jeans and green tennis shoes. Cue hot-o-meter exploding.

           “And what’s it to you?”

“Just wondering what a pretty girl like you would be doing out here.”

I fought back the blush making its way to my cheeks.

“I can handle myself and if I couldn’t, I would want you to help me.” I looked around the corner and the vampires were gone. Crap.

“Ouch, I don’t even know your name and I already like you.”

“Too bad for you, because there isn’t going to be a first date.” I started walking away from him.

He jumped in front of me, “And why not?”

           “I don’t know your name.”

           “Max.”

           “Max? That’s it?”

           “Yup. Now tell me yours.”

“No thanks.” I started walking in the other direction. This time he didn’t follow me.

“At least give me your phone number.” God this boy is desperate. I pulled out a piece of paper out of my pocket and a pencil out of my bag and wrote my number on it. “Here.”

He smiled and took it from me. “Later Blue.”

I rolled my eyes and started walking away. It’s better than Natashia.

    Max’s P.O.V.

“And Jake said I have no game.”

“You don’t. You just got lucky.” I turned around and watched as my friends Jake and Dai jumped from a building.

              “You were watching me?”

“Yeah, you and Blue seemed so cute together.” Dai said in a girly voice.

“Shut the hell up.” I slapped the side of his head.

Jake looked at me and smirked, “Find out what you can about her, and then kill her.”

“And if I don’t want to kill her?”

Dai glared at me and replied, “Then I will.”

  Chapter 2

    Rai’s P.O.V.

It’s been three days since Nat saw those vampires. We checked and saw nothing so we were spending our Saturday different ways.

Dani was out with her father, Nat was working with her clan and I was on Brutanic Duty. How lucky am I?

It was boring with a capital b-o-r-i-n-g. What I wouldn’t give to hear my little sister Max and her twin Kalinda argue over some unimportant 6 year-old problem.

I sighed and looked around the park. I saw couples sitting and hugging each other. On the other side of the park- sitting all alone- was an emo kid.

Now I know it’s none of my business but who the heck is he?

  Unknown P.O.V.

I sighed as another random kid fell lifelessly from my hands. This is just too easy.

I looked over at the park and saw a girl with medium-length white hair sitting on a bench staring at something on the other side of the park.

I smirked, “Looks like I found a way to keep myself busy.”

  Rai’s P.O.V.

This person from what I could see was in pain and me, being my sensitive self, got up and went and sat next to him. “Sup?”

  “Do I know you?”

  “Nah. But I know you.”

“Oh really?” His eyes went from being cold and lifeless to sparkling with curiosity.

“And how do you know me?” He asked leaning on one arm.

“You’re the boy who everyone is scared of because you fight because your “parent” beats you for no reason and your only friends who know the true you are in your old neighbourhood.”

His eyes widened then five seconds later he regained his calm demeanor. “What are you, a stalker?”

I chuckled. “No, the same thing happened to me.”

I stood up and stretched and started walking away when he called out.

“Hey, are you going to be here tomorrow?”

I stopped and turned around. “Why? Do you want me to be here?”

  He nodded. “The name’s Alex.”

“Rai and if you want me to be here, I’ll be here.”

I smiled as his face lit up and I walked out the park gates.

  “Brutanic Duty Over.”

  Jake’s P.O.V.

I grinned as I saw my clan defeat some of the Burgandic vampires.

“This is a whole lot more fun than I thought.” I said looking at my father.

He smirked before turning to his assistant.

I was watching in content as Burgandic vampires were finally losing, when most of our clan went up in flames and smoke.

“What the hell?” I heard my father screech. I looked through the crowd and saw a girl falling to the ground, breathing heavily, with cuts and bruises on her skin and remains of fire on her fingertips. So she was the one that unleashed all that fire.

“Dad.” I pointed at the girl. His lips curled down into a frown.

“The Burgandic princess.” He growled darkly. Th
en he smirked at me, “We’re putting the plan into action.”

  Dani’s P.O.V.

I struggled to catch my breath. The crowd around me fell silent; then minutes later cheered seeing that most of the Brutanic Army had been killed.

I wiped the blood trickling down my nose and looked up at my father who had now occupied the empty space next to me.

“Your mother is going to kill me Daniella.”

I sighed and tried to stand up but fell back into the arms of one of my father’s friend’s son.

“Thanks Ethan.” I said looking up at him.

He smiled and helped me up holding on to me.

  “Having trouble standing dear princess?”

I looked up and saw the Brutanic King standing there with his son who was glaring hatefully at Ethan.

“Charlie. Why are you here?” My father hissed.

“Just leaving and making sure your princess is okay.” He said looking behind my father to look at me.

He left and his son winked at me and followed.

“Dani, are you okay? You’re hot.”

I blinked and looked at Ethan. “I know.” I joked weakly.

He shook his head. “Your head. It’s burning up. Are you okay?”

I nodded and started walking forward. I shook my head ‘no’ and collapsed on the ground.

  Chapter 3

  Dani’s P.O.V.

I shook my head as I heard shouts and screams from downstairs. “Again mom? Seriously?”

I stood up and tried to walk to my door but only got as far as the end of my bed.

“Careful. You were unconscious for a while.”

I whipped my head around to the voice. I growled as I recognized the person.

  “What? Missed me?” He smirked.

“Why are you in my room? And more frankly why are you in Burgandic Vampires territory?”

He pushed himself off the wall and walked over to me.

  “The name’s Jake.”

“Good to know. Now… GET THE HELL OUT!!”

As soon as I finished shouting I heard two pairs of footsteps on the stairs.

“Daniella, are you all right?” My father asked opening the door.

“Of course she’s not all right!! You almost got her killed!!”

My father sighed and tried to calm down his angry wife.

“Mom,” She looked at me, “I’m fine. I heal fast and I chose to unleash the power.”

She sighed, “But you didn’t have to go to war.”

“I know,” I walked over to her and wrapped my arms around her lower torso, “I’m sorry for scaring you and dad.”

She smiled and ruffled my hair and kissed my forehead. “It’s okay Nicki.” She’s the only one who can call me Nicki and get away with it.

She glared at my father and left. He sighed, smiled at me and followed. She’s knows something I don’t.

  “Wow, your mother seems angry.”

I turned and looked at the Brutanic Prince. “What’s your name?”

He chuckled, “I already told you.”

  “I wasn’t listening.”

  “Apparently. It’s Jake.”

I nodded. “Jake, can you do me a favor?” I asked smiling sweetly.

He smirked. “Anything for you babe.”

Ugh!! I tried to resist the urge to punch him. I walked over to him instead.

“GET OUT!!” I yelled and pushed him out the window. What I wasn’t expecting was for him to hold onto my arms and carry me with him.

  ***----***----***----***----***----***----***----***----***----***---***---***---

“Why are you following me?” I asked Jake when I stepped back into my house seeing my parents went to work. Yup, vampires have to work. Well, at least mine do.

  “I-I-I’m c-c-c-cold-d-d.” He chattered.

  I smirked. “Not my problem.”

  “You pushed me in!!”

  “You broke in my house!!”

  “No I didn’t!”

  “Yes you did!”

  “No I didn’t!”

  “Yes you did!!”

  “NO!!”

  “YES!!”

  “NO!!”

  “YES!!”

  “NO!!!”

  “YES!!!”

“Prove it.” He crossed his arms.

“When you heard my parents, you hid.”

He looked away. “If this is some plan for you to get close to me and kill me, then your plan failed.”

He looked at me and smiled, “Or maybe I just like you.”

I walked over to him and put my arms around his neck, warming up my temperature. “Well I hope you can accept rejection.” I whispered in his ear.

He jumped back away from me, holding his neck where I burned him.

  “That’s not fair.”

“And I really don’t care. Now get out.” I pointed at the door.

He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around my waist. “Why would I do that?”

He hugged me and I shivered. So he controls ice?

I put my arms back around him and we stood there raising and lowering our body temperatures. He closed his eyes while I kept mine open and started walking closer to the door. When I got him in the doorway, I pushed him out the door and locked it.

He frowned and I smirked. Then he smirked and I frowned as he ran around to the back.

“My window!” I raced up to my room where I saw him sitting on the ledge. I pushed him off and closed the window.

‘That’s not nice.’ He said communicating my head.

‘Well, I’m not nice.’ I replied lying in my bed. I’m the only one I know who has a bed with black gothic frames in their room. I sighed and closed my eyes, falling asleep.

  Jake’s P.O.V.

“Dammit!” I shouted as I landed on the dirt under the Burgandic princess’ home.

“Having trouble getting the girl?” Dai chuckled.

“Shut up and why don’t you go after her friend, Rai?”

“I’m on my way.” He saluted and left.

I always get the girl. Always. All she would have to do was stare into my eyes and she believed every word I said. Not this girl. She’s quite evil for a Burgandic.

  “DAMMIT!!”

  Chapter 4

  *The next day*

  Rai’s P.O.V

I lay on the bench in the park, using my school bag as a pillow. I hate school so much.

  “Thank God, it’s winter break.”

  “I know how you feel.”

I sat up and saw Alex walking over in my direction dragging an indifferent older boy with him. I got up and gave Alex a hug.

  “Who’s this?”

“My older brother Destery. He had to come.”

I smiled at Destery in hello and hugged Alex tighter.

“I’m glad you decided to come.”

I saw his cheeks turn pink and he hugged me back.

“What about me? Don’t I get a hug too?” Destery pouted.

I let go of Alex. “Why do you want a hug?”

“I’m in pain too.” He kept pouting.

I looked at him questioningly but I stood up and walked over to him so I could hug him properly. When he was five seconds away from hugging me, I pulled back.

“I don’t trust you.” I replied and looked away at his disappointed face. Alex, however instead of feeling his brother’s pain, was laughing so hard; he fell off the bench.

“Shut the hell up.” Destery walked over to the bench and swatted at Alex.

I tried to look away but the sad look on his face made my heart clench. I sat next to him on the bench looking at Alex still laughing uncontrollably on the ground while out of the corner of my eye; I could see Destery watching me.

I scooted closer to him and wrapped my arms around his waist, burying my face in his chest.

  “I’m sorry.” I whispered.

“For what?” He asked hugging me back.

“For making you feel sad.” br />
“Don’t worry about it.” We looked at Alex. “Wanna make him angry?”

I nodded. Destery smirked and pulled me up and started walking away.

“HEY!! Destery, what are you doing?!”

Destery’s smirk widened. “Just showing my future wife around. Later.”

Alex ran up to us and grabbed my other arm.

“Let her go Destery. You have plenty of girls.”

“But I like this one.” Destery whined and wrapped his arms around me and pulled me away.

Alex looked shocked that I was letting Destery pull me away. Then I did something completely out of my character.

“I LOVE YOU TOO ALEX!!” I shouted and watched as people turned and stared as Alex’s face flared bright red.

  “What about me?” Destery asked.

  I shrugged. “You’re okay.”

His face lit up in a smile, a genuine smile and I couldn’t help but smile back.

“Alex says he’ll see you later.”

“How did you-” He cut me off by waving his phone.

“Now, come on!! It’s time to show you around Boston!!!”

  He’s overly happy, isn’t he?

  Nat’s P.O.V

I sighed and followed my older brother, Shawn and older sister, Rosalina (but she prefers to be called Rosalie; ever since she watched Twilight with her human friends) as they walked through the city to get items for our picnic.

“You know,” I jumped at the voice behind me. Ever since the incident with Max, I’ve been extremely jumpy. I inhaled and turned around.

“You been extremely jumpy lately.” I glared and aimed a punch at my twin Logan. The only person who is actually from my original family.

  “And you care because?”

“I don’t. It just makes my life more fun.”

I turned around and started walking away noticing Shawn and Rosalie left us. Great. I kept walking looking at the ground when I crashed……. right into a boy with black hair. I started apologizing without looking up.

“I’m so so so so sorry. I wasn’t looking where I was going and…”

“Blue.” I knew that voice. The person held my arms. I looked up slowly.

  “Max. Surprise seeing you here.”

“I could say the same thing.”

“Dude!! Take your hands off my sister!!!” Logan ran up to us- and me, being my fragile self- pulled me out of Max’s grasp without difficulty.

  “Logan…..” I started.

“Who the heck are you?!!” Logan shouted.

Max smiled and bowed. “I’m Max. Max Roberts.”
